(An elementary school production of The Sound of Music)
A fourth grader, diminutive in voice and size, is Mother Abbess. Upfront, alone, center stage, she begins her inspirational song, “Climb Every Mountain”, and stops abruptly. The confusion in her eyes grows to panic. It is quiet, except for the instrumental soundtrack which plays on without her. The audience in unison sends thoughts her way “Come on. Come on. You can do it.” Then, with perfect dramatic timing, she joins the music…”A dream that will need, All the love you can give, Every day of your life, For as long as you live...” The music crescendos, she musters her voice, sounding nothing short of a Broadway star…”Climb every Mountain, Ford every stream, Follow every rainbow… Till… you… find… your… dream!” The audience, sucked into the moment, moved to tears. This young girl turned a challenge into a memorable moment for the audience and a demonstrative moment for success.
As I write this, the bar exam is a week away. It was last February, when one of my candidates had her demonstrative moment of success. It was the first day of the bar exam. She called me at lunch break. She felt she performed badly the first morning, and wanted reassurance of her abilities. In spite of this false start, she mustered the strength, for 3 days, to outperform the crème de la crème. She overcame a difficult beginning and passed the CA Bar Exam.
I hope this inspires you to tackle your challenge and grab your success.
